"Mother’s letter was received the morning we started. In reply, I must say that I could come home on Thanksgiving Day, if I asked for leave, but do not wish to, as the Comd has promised me the next vacancy in Philadelphia, where I can be with you often. If any men are sent on, I will apply to charge of them and then stop. I am in excellent health and will get weighed in a day or two. Mr. Walter sends me the “Republican” regularly, and it is very welcome. Thanks for Mr. Ridgley’s kind inquiries; please return my regards also to Mr. Brown & Cody, & Mrs. Forwood. I was not with Dr. Bladen at the moment he died, but a short time (3 hours) before. It was then evident that his time had come. I will send you a photograph of him. I’m sorry that Allis lost your ring as it cannot be replaced. With much love to all. I am Affectionately Your’s Henry C. Cochrane" From the Henry C.
