English: Henderson Waves, Singapore's highest pedestrian bridge. The Henderson Waves Bridge is located in Singapore. It is 274 meters long, 8 meters wide and 36 meters high. Henderson Waves crosses over Henderson Road, a six-lane freeway. It is made of yellow balau wood, used for the deck, and steel ribs alternating from above and below the deck which creates the wave like shape. That distinctive wave shape creates alcoves where people can rest and sit on the yellow balau wood benches. The 1,500 square meter deck is the centerpiece of the bridge. It is a pedestrian bridge connecting Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park. Henderson waves, along with two other bridges as part of an international contest to connect Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill and Kent Ridge Park, which are separated by major roads or wooded vegetation.Henderson Waves has seven spans. Six of them have three and a half meter high arches and are twenty four meters long. One is bigger, It is six meters high and fifth-seven meters long. The Henderson Waves Bridge is elevated in more on one side than the other. The difference in elevation is the height of a seven story building. The design for the Henderson Waves bridge was originally planned out with pencil and paper but then the Architects used complex mathematics to form the final product. |
