Description

Thailand Hellfire Pass railway cutting on the former Burma Railway ("Death Railway") in Thailand was built with forced labour during the Second World War, in part by Allied prisoners of war.

The Australian, British, Dutch and other allied Prisoners of War were required by the Japanese to work 18 hours a day to complete the cutting.
