Description

Seen in a dismantled state, this He162 usually lives in the Imperial War Museum at Lambeth in London, but is seen in temporary storage at Duxford while the Lambeth museum was being refurbished. The '162' was the fastest of the first generation jets, and was of wooden construction. Named 'Spatz' (Sparrow) by Heinkel, the construction programme had the name 'Salamander', although it was officially the 'Volksjäger' (people's fighter). It will eventually go on permanent display at Duxford.
