| Description |
English: Final steps of the descent towards Heimaey Airport, Iceland, approx 1 minute before landing. Roughly the northwestern 20% of the island of Heimaey are visible. On the left, behind the low cliffs of the western coast, Vestmann's golf course and behind it the island's camping at the bottom of Herjólfsdalur and mount Blátindur. On the center, one's can see the main sportfield, with the port and mount Heimaklettur just behind. The city of Heimaey covers all the rightern part of the picture, bordered behind by Eldfellshraun, lava flows from 1973 eruption. Further away, the small islands of Elliðaey and Bjarnarey (upper right) are also seen. |
