Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The ladies shown in this photo belong to the Kyoto Women's Association. They are rehearsing in the Heian shrine for a modern festival which celebrates 1200 years of Kyoto history. The music and dance ranges from very old (Heian) to very new (rock), in keeping with the festival's theme of history through the ages. The Heian shrine, itself built to commemorate the city's past, is a perfect venue for such a festival.

In the background can be seen the White Tiger tower that anchors the Western wing of the palace.
