Summary

[edit]
Description
English: From below, the red brick buildings of the Hecla Mine in Burke Canyon Idaho. Crumbling from age but a reminder of the early mining days in Northern Idaho.

Burke Canyon is famous for it's violent war involving the miners and company guard dispute in 1892 over pay and other issues. The Canyon is only 300 feet wide so very tight quarters for the community.

In 1891, silver/lead ore valued at nine million dollars had been shipped out of the Coeur d'Alene mining district, including a quarter-million dollars' worth of gold bullion.
