| Description |
English: Heathland to the west of Ferny Crofts, New Forest There is a broad valley to the west of Ferny Crofts, which drains to the southwest then around to the south of Ferny Crofts. In the foreground of this picture is dry heath, with bracken and heathers. Lower down is the humid/damp heath, on which the heather will not grow. In the valley bottom is a mire with sedges and bog myrtle. The broadleaved trees in the distance are along the northern edge of Culverley Farm. The stand of pines to the left is a distinctive local feature, with only a few trees that have been allowed to grow up tall in competition with one another. There are other Scots pines behind them, but they are broader isolated specimens. |
