Description

heartleaf jewelflower, Streptanthus cordatus var. cordatus, California, White Mountains, Black Mountain, Owens Valley drainage, elevation 2297 m (7535 ft).

This mustard family member is widespread throughout the Intermountain Region of western North America, at montane and high-desert elevations. The plant shown here has fruits somewhat narrower than typical for the species, and represents a local variant of the White and Inyo mountains (and adjacent Sierra Nevada) sometimes recognized as S. cordatus var. duranii.
