Head of Colossal Statue of Ramesses II (Acc. 1784)

Red granite head from a colossal statue of king Ramesses II. The king wears a tripartite wig and long beard, with the end of the beard broken away. Part of the King's cartouche is visible near his left shoulder.

55.0 x 50.0 cm 19th Dynasty Bubastis (Tell Basta), Lower Egypt

Acquisition: Egypt Exploration Fund (Donation, 1887-1889)

Presumed to be from Edouard Naville's excavation at Bubastis, 1887-9.
