He came from down this way,so I just went up and says, ^Howd youdo, John; wheres Mr Lincoln.? 29 HE KNEW LINCOLNWell, John didnt seem over glad to seeme. Have you an appintment with Mr.Lincoln ? he says. *No, sir, I says; I aint, and it aintnecessary. Mebbe its all right and fittinfor them as wants post-offices to haveappintments, but I reckon Mr. Lincolnsold friends dont need em, so you justtrot along, Johnnie, and tell him BillyBrowns here and see what he says. Well,he kind a flushed up and set his lips to-gether, but he knowed me, and so he wentoff. In about two minutes the door poppedopen and out came Mr. Lincoln, his faceall lit up.
