FIREHOLE RIVER ANP CANYON spots of the reservation. The road crosses by a fordthe east fork of the Firehole River (Nez Perces Creek),near the summer cantonment of a troop of UnitedStates cavalry stationed here for the better protectionof this part of the Park, and continues on for a mile orso to the Fountain Plotel, Lower Geyser Basin, one ofthe best hostelries of the Park—the end of the firstdays journey. WESTERN ENTRANCE TO THE PARK. Monida, Mont., to Lower Geyser Basin. Monida, a station on the Oregon Short Line, is sit-uated in a broad, low pass on the crest of the RockyMountains, due west of Yellowstone Park, within onedays coaching of the same, and is the point from whichtourists entering the Park at the western entranceleave the railroad. The main range of the RockyMountains forms the dividing line between Montanaand Idaho, hence the name Monida. In leaving the station the stage road passes over thefoot hills for a few miles and enters Centennial Vallev,
