or tourists to obtain. Grand View.—There are many projections betweenLookout and Inspiration, from which glimpses of thecanyon may be had. Grand View is about midway be-tween Point Lookout and Inspiration Point, nearly op- TOUR OF THE PARK. 97 posite Artists Point on the opposite side of the canyon.It affords an excellent view of the canyon and of therugged cliffs about Inspiration Point. Inspiration Point is considered by many as being, ofall points, the best from which to see and appreciate thevast immensity of the canyon, and, although it is twomiles from Point Lookout, the grandeur of the view,when considered together with the various other pointsand projections from which a more or less extendedinspection of the canyon may be made, well repaysone for the extra effort required. Inspiration Point is 1,500 feet above the river, andwould afford an excellent distant view of both canyonand falls, were it not for Point Lookout intervening,which obstructs a large portion of the latter.

Looking down stream, the view of the canyon isespecially fine; though the brilliant coloring of its wallsis not so noticeable as above the point. Beside the road,a short distance from this locality, may be seen a largeboulder of granite, a most interesting relic of glacialdeposit, said by geologists to have been stranded hereduring the ^ice period. The opposite side of the canyon possesses many ex-cellent points from which to observe both canyon andfalls, giving the reverse effects of lights and shadows,which in itself is highly interesting. Particularly isthis true of Artists Point, from which an unobstructedview of both canyon and falls may be had, and is nowrendered accessible by a bridge over the Yellowstoneabove the Upper Falls, which enables one to make asatisfactory inspection of these numerous attractions;among which an eagles nest, situated upon an inacces-sible crag, fully compensates for the trouble of bring-ing a
