Text Appearing Before Image:
UPPER FALLS. Falls. The river between, while seemingly placid, frompoints of observation most readily accessible, andtherefore usually visited, is exceedingly rapid, thoughits remarkable clearness affords a view of its apparent-ly smooth, rocky bottom the entire distance. A footpathleads to the bottom of the Upper Falls, where very finebrook trout fishing may be enjoyed, and midway be-tween this point and the Lower Falls, Cascade Creekenters the river. Cascade Falls are below the bridge which spans thecreek. Their aggregate fall, including the cascadesabove, is about 130 feet, and a ladder to Grotto Poolallows an inspection of them, though these minorattractions possess little, if any, charm to the sightseerwhen so near a sight justly rated among the grandestamong earths many marvelously grand scenic displays
Text Appearing After Image:
TOUR OF THE PARK. 93 GREAT FALLS AND GRAND CANYON OF THEYELLOWSTONE. A short distance beyond Cascade Creek the roadpasses a point from which the first ghmpse of theGrand Canyon is obtained. Inspiration Point may beseen some three miles away. The eye follows therivers course to the brink of the Great Falls, when itsuddenly disappears, to be seen again some distance be-low, meandering, like a slender ribbon of silver, be-tween frowning canyon walls. Near Cascade CreekBridge a signboard points out the trail to the brink ofthe Lower Falls, following which (on foot) the visitorsoon stands upon a natural platform of rock upon thevery edge of the canyon, overlooking the awful plungeof seething waters. At this point, the river, thoughsome 250 feet in width a short distance above, narrowsto just seventy-four feet, and while the view is grandalmost beyond expression, it is not the best to be ob-tained of the falls. Point Lookout and Red Rock beingregarded the best points from which to see them;
