| Description |
The National Railway Museum's former British Railways Riddles 'Standard' 9F 2-10-0 locomotive number 92220 EVENING STAR of York MPD passes Haxby Road signal box on the Down Main line with the 08:23 York to Scarborough 'Scarborough Spa Express' (1L97). Sunday 14th August 1983 Haxby Road signal box was located by the Down Main line alongside Haxby Road level crossing, and was a North Eastern Railway Type S1a design which opened as a non block post circa.1873. A replacement 7 lever reconditioned McKenzie and Holland Number 16 frame was installed in 1936. The signals were removed on 28th February 1988 and were replaced Strensall signal box S3 and S4 signals with Haxby Road having an emergency replacement switch for the two signals installed on the same day. Closure came on 14th January 1989 when the level crossing became controlled from Strensall signal box by closed circuit television and the boom gates were replaced by lifting barriers The London and North Eastern Railway nameboard passed into the National Railway Museum's hands in 1988 Behind Haxby Road signal box is 6 signal (down main home) with Haxby signal box's down main distant signal below it Ref no 051/03630 |
