Summary
[edit]DescriptionHawkesbury Canal Junction - geograph.org.uk - 285038.jpg |
English: Hawkesbury Canal Junction Hawkesbury Junction has been an important link in the canal network for over 200 years. Although the boat traffic today is almost entirely made up of leisure craft, commerce was the Junction's reason for being. Formed by the meeting of the Coventry Canal (to the left) with the Oxford Canal (right) it is known locally as Sutton Stop. This is also the name of the private unmade road which gives access to the area, both being named after the Sutton family who were well known lock-keepers for over half of the nineteenth century. |
