Summary

[edit]
Description Output of a simple bash script to illustrate the birthday paradox. Hashes of random values are produced with SHA-1 and the first two bytes are compared (ie. 256 possible values). According to the birthday paradox, there is 50% of chance that a pair of two bytes appear in the list if about 16 values are available (roughly ). With more values (here 32), the probability of success highly increases.
