The cost of labeling averages about thirty centsfor one hundred ends. Making the Boxes.—Boxes are made at a specially constructedbench, which is fitted with a form to hold the end and center piecesin place while the top piece is nailed on. The box maker selects one JO UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA EXPERIMENT STATION labeled end piece, and two plain pieces for the center and oppositeend, and places them in their proper positions in the form. He thenplaces the top piece squarely on the ends with a cleat at each end,secures nails from the nail stripper, and proceeds to drive the nails,sending each one into the wood with a single stroke.
