English: Diagram of "Trench 1" burials uncovered by archaeologist M.R. Harrington during his 1919 excavations on Bussell Island, at the mouth of the Little Tennessee River in Loudon County, Tennessee, USA. The circular graves belong to the "Round Grave" culture, which corresponds roughly to the Late Archaic (c. 3000-1000 B.C.) and Woodland (c. 1000 B.C. - 1000 A.D.) periods, whereas the rectangular graves belong to the Cherokee. |
