Harriet Chapel, Catoctin Episcopal Parish, Catoctin Furnace, Maryland

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Harriet Chapel, Catoctin Episcopal Parish. Built by Harriet (d. 1827) and John Brien, owners of Catoctin Furnace near Thurmont, Maryland, for the furnace workers and their families, the church was completed in 1828. Originally served by a Moravian pastor, the chapel became a mission of All Saints Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Maryland in 1833. It became an independent parish in 1921. Due to its proximity to Camp David, the presidential retreat, several presidents have worshiped at Harriet Chapel, including Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter.
