ith the keys, at last bringing forth Home,sweet Home. It was a man who lived near us in the country whotaught him, Dick explained; and mother always wish-ed he could learn music, he loves it so. Why, yes, and then lie might have a hand-organ,said Dearing. But even Dicks imagination refused to takein a picture of little Norry with a hand-organ strapped toliis back, and he added, But I dont suppose they teachhand organs; you just sort of turn em. The other parcels contained one or two games, a lot ofmarbles, a top, and a big ball. When Dick Dearingsimagination had gone thus far in his purchases it hadfailed him; but he announced at once his desire to pur-chase for Norry something alive. I thought of a dog, he said—a real smart little dog,and you could train him to lead Norry around. After this it was almost impossible to express surprise,gratitude, or any emotion, for apparently wonders wouldnever cease while Dick Dearing was around. With the keen instincts of the blind, Norry seemed atonce to understand the little animal and to win it to him.When the question of naming it came up he declaredit ought to be called something that would mean howglad he was to get it. So Dearing said that his sisterBarbara was awfully quick about such things, and hewould get her to choose a name. An hour was delightfully whiled away by the boys.Bearing told them all about his grandfathers countryplace at Mai-plains, in New Jersey—how glad he alwayswas to go there.
