entleman I knew sent the mother andchildren a nice dinner, and I am sure they enjoyed it verymuch. Just at this moment Teds mamma came in. Howsmy boy . <)li. dear, dear! wept Ted. I aint anyhow. AuntLucy and Aunt Mary have been here talking to me: Ithink its what papa calls diverting my mind. But Iwant to go to the party, and I dont like the chicken-pox,and I never, never, never will. Now I might preach all you little folk a sermon onthis text, and tell you that Ted ought to have been morepatient, and grateful for what Aunt Lucy and AuntMary had done to divert his mind from the troubles ofchicken-pox. But I am not going to do so. I have onlytold you about Ted because some of you may have thechicken-pox somewhere, and theres nothing like goodcompany when things are uncomfortable. Just say toyourself: There, that other fellow has got it too! Its got tohe put up with; theres no doing anything ahout it, andwe must just stand it the best we can. MARCH 20, 1883. HARDLY WciKTII PAHNINi: -FROM A PAINTING BY J. <!. BROWN, N.A. 314: HARPERS YOUNG PEOPLE. VOLUME IV. MARCH. BY SUSAN HARTLEY SWETT.THE loud winds )ihiy their trumpets gay: The days march to their ring; And heres the bridge across the ridge That leads to happy spring.Over they go beneath its arch.A merry troop, for this is March. Come, green grass, lift above the drift Your fringes to the air;Come, silver boot, come, rosy foot. Ami leave your gay prints there;Come, bluebirds, and come, glad new leaves. To flutter round the homestead eaves. Through meadows damp, with your bright lamp. Oh, yellow cowslips, haste;Come, south wind warm, with one light arm Around the willows waist,And call and call the violets dear. For mornings here, and spring is near. Come, silver streams, the winters dreams Break with your ringing feet;Wake, rivers gay. and flit away; Come, rains, with fingers sweet. And hang new tassels on the larch;Come, all glad things, for this is March.
