The simplehorizontal line that belts the globe; the deej*monotone of blue ; the measured surge, like themighty pulsation of a living world; the sullen,cadenced roar; the solemn anthem of eternity. Great God! exclaimed my companion,drawing a long breath, does the sea roll in thisway always ? Then among the mass-es of sea-weed were the dead bodies of variousfish, young sharks, lobsters, crabs, star-fish, andstrange, uncouth things, to which we found itdifficult to assign a place, seeming the connect-ing links between animals and weeds. But longbefore curiosity was satisfied in this desultorysearch our own blood had caught the tumultuous spirit of the waters.
