Title
Harness pendant with mount; Barbed arrow shape
Description
English: A copper-alloy horse harness pendant an hanger, found separately and several yards apart but a perfect fit, hence considered originally paired. The hanger is lozenge-shaped with a double loop at the base through which a pin would have passed securing the pendant below. The fixing was a single spike behind, The pendant appears to be in the form of a stylized and barbed arrow similar to a horse arrow with two large barbs curving up about half-way along; two small pointed barbs lie in the angle formed by the curved barbs and the point. The shaft splays out towards the suspension loop in the manner of an arrow socket. No signs of any of the original enamel or gilding remaining on either piece. Measurements: Hanger maximum width 17 mm, length 25 mm excluding the spike which projects behind. Length of spike 15 mm Pendant: maximum width 23 mm, length 44 mm.
