Title
Harness pendant
Description
English: A complete copper-alloy horse harness pendant. This pendant is shield shaped, measuring 41.6mm in total length and 25.4mm in width at its top and tapering to a point. The suspension loop is set at 90 degrees to the plane of the pendant. The pendant is flat and the front face of is decorated with three fusils (long narrow lozenges) cojoined in fess (a board horizontal band) gules (red enamel).

There is a very similar pendant also Argent (silver) three fusils cojoined in fess gules, discovered in Postwick, Norfolk and is believed to have been used by Simon de Montagu, as seen on seals of 1293 and 1301, and William de, as seen on seals 1304-1316 (Ashley 2002, p12 fig 12, no 82 and p48). This pendant is therefore likely to be associated with these families and is medieval and early 14th century in date.
