Harness pendant- DUR-CF4A75 |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy Medieval harness pendant, c. 1200- 1400.
The pendant is shield shaped in plan, with the broken attachment set perpendicular at the top. On the front face there is the top half of an X in red enamel, which would have filled the field. The rest of the field was probably either enamelled in another colour, or gilded. There is a layer of what could be corroded enamel but it no longer has any colour. The reverse is plain. The hanger is T-shaped in plan, the terminal being bifurcated with holes in each end, to allow a bar to hold the pendant in place (the bar is now missing). On the reverse of the horizontal part there are the remains of two studs, used to attached the pendant to the harness. Overall the harness pendant is not in particularly good condition, the surface is extremely uneven and corroded all over to a light green colour. Pendant- Weight; 5.1g Height; 35.92mm Width; 25.30mm Thickness; 3.77mm Hanger- Weight; 5.2g Height; 19.27mm Width; 20.08mm Thickness; 5.39mm |
