Title
Harness fitting: harness ring
Description
English: A medieval to post medieval copper alloy harness ring dating to c. AD 1000-1800.

The ring is flattened slightly on its upper and lower surfaces, with rounded edges. There are signs of wear at three distinct points, suggesting it may have been used at a point where three straps may have met, possibly on a bridle. There are suggestions of iron corrosion here which may represent other pieces of the harness which are now missing.

A large number of these rings have been recorded on the PAS database, including WMID-012331 and LIN-50AF93, but their dating remains broad due to the continued use of this form over a long period of time.

Measurements: 46.1mm diameter, 6.1mm thickness, weight 24g.
