Title |
Harness Pendant |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy Medieval Harness Pendant, probably from the 12th - 15th Century. The harness pendant is shield shaped and has a hoop at the top of the 'shield'. The total length of the pendant (including the hoop) is 44.9mm, its widest point came be measured across the top of the 'shield' at 27.5mm and it is 2.68mm thick. The front of the pendant has been highly decorated and still has much of its enamelled surface visible. The design is split down the middle of the object (vertically). The left hand side of the object has been decorated with three lions on a red background (presumably representing England); whilst the other half of the object has been decorated with four fleur de lis on a blue background (presumably representing France). The reverse is free of any decoration. The pendant is worn but most of the enamel does survive (which is quite rare). The exposed metal surface has gone a mid-brownish green. |
