Summary

[edit]
Description

Curiosity Right Mastcam (100 mm camera) image of "Harlaw Rise", a mudstone boulder located in the Glen Torridon valley (formerly known as the "Clay Trough") of Gale Crater. This image shows an outcrop investigated for 5 sols (Sols 2449-2452). The small scuff at top right is where Curiosity brushed away dirt and weathered rock to study the composition of the rock with its x-ray spectrometer.

The Glen Torridon region has a particularly strong signal of clay minerals as measured from orbital spacecraft. The finely layered rocks seen here are typical of those found in the area.
