It is pointed out thatBritish interests are usually heavy pur-chases of turpentine, and recent ship-ments in this direction from the prim-ary markets have shown a decided fall-ing off, due to the adverse business con-ditions created by the prolonged Eng-lish coal strike. Other reports indicatealso that speculative activity in Europehas been curtailed, chiefly owing tothe continental financial situation. Coupled with the smaller consump-tion of turpentine abroad, productionfor the current year has been fairlylarge, especially crops in France andin the United States. While the do-mestic demand recently registered a de-cided spurt, this failed to last for anylength of time, and the strong markettone soon faded.
