Hamerkops are known for their large nests, which are among the most impressive in the avian world. The nest is self-contained with both entry and exit routes. These nests can be up to 2 meters wide and are often built near water bodies like rivers or lakes. Hamerkops are skilled fishermen and feed on a variety of aquatic creatures such as fish, frogs, and insects. They have a diverse diet and are known to be opportunistic feeders. These birds are quite adaptable and can be found in various habitats, from wetlands to savannas.
