Description
The experts at Bruun Rasmussen stated that this painting was exhibited at Charlottenborg, Copenhagen in 1881. The catalogue from 1881 does indeed have a painting by Schiødte, En Barberstue, no. 224. The painting is illustrated on page 34, but that is a much larger view of a barbershop, with more people. The illustrator of the catalogue, F. Henriksen, wrote that his illustrations were based on drawings by the artists, so Schiødte may have changed his mind between the drawing and the painting, or there are perhaps two different paintings. pdf file of the exhibition catalogue, at kb.dk.
