Description

The festival of lamps is here. Taken at home, using an oil lamp (bought for Rs. 7 from a road side vendor), a black screen. The lamp is placed on glass and little bit of painting by a pen torch is used to illuminate the faces of Ganapathi (Lord Ganesha) and Devi.

Deepavali is a Sanskrit word - Deepa meaning light and Avali, meaning a row. In Hinduism, across many parts of India and Nepal, it is the homecoming of Rama after a 14-year exile in the forest and his victory over Ravana. In the legend, the people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Rama by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (dĭpa). - taken from Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepavali)
