Summary

[edit]
Description
English: At the time of this image, the Klamath National Forest in northwestern California remained under emergency closure while the California Interagency Incident Command Team fought the Happy Camp Complex Fire. The Red Flag Warning for the area was extended because of strong winds, low humidity and very dry and unstable air. Relative humidities were in the single digits, and extreme fire behavior conditions were expected. Timber, grass, brush, heavy downed material and dense stands of mixed conifer acted as the dominant fuel source. This image was taken by the Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument around 2030Z on September 3, 2014. This fire can be seen in NOAA View as well as previous days to track progression of the fire from the Suomi NPP satellite. –NOAA Staff
