Description

c/n HP.67/15 Built 1948 and allocated to 47 squadron. Flew in Operation ‘Plainfare’, the Berlin Airlift, carrying coal to Berlin from May to August 1949. In 1950 she was converted to a Met.1 variant for weather reconnaissance missions with 202 sqn based at RAF Aldergrove in Northern Island. She remained on these duties until 1959 when she was modified to a T.5 training variant. She then joined the Bomber Command Bombing School at RAF Lindholme, following them to RAF Scampton as the Strike Command Bombing School in 1972. In 1974 the unit became the Radar Training Flight of 230 Operational Conversion Unit, a Vulcan unit. She made the last ever Hastings flight when she was retired to the Aerospace Museum at Cosford in 1977. She has been on display there ever since and is currently part of the National Cold War Exhibition. RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
