Title

Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy candlestick of Late Medieval to Post- Medieval date (c. AD 1475 - c. AD 1600).

75.5mm long and circular in section. 12mm in diameter, with three equally spaced circumferential ribs measuring 14.5mm in diameter. At each end is a 'plug' which fitted into other sections of the complete candlestick. One 'plug' is ha its original flat end, the opposite end is broken and uneven.

This candlestick has a dark green patina overall, with some lighter areas of corrosion.

A candlestick of similar design is illustrated by Brownsword and dated late fifteenth/sixteenth centuries (Brownsword 1985, 'English Latten Domestic Candlesticks 1400-1700'. no. 7).

Similar candlesticks or candle holders are recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. For example, see IOW-EEB477, NCL-9794D5 and SUR-C1D304.
