Title |
Handaxe Illustration by Dom Andrews |
||
Description |
English: An Acheulian ovate handaxe, in fine condition. Both ends are rounded, and more or less symmetrical; one end is slightly wider than the other. Both sides have been shaped equally, with a rough finish. The edges appear to have originally been sharp all of the way around. The artefact has been subject to minor damage over the centuries, as the edges are no longer very sharp. The whole artefact has been subject to gentle wear. However, on the whole, the piece is in excellent condition, with a beautiful appearance; on both sides of two of the edges there are concentric rings of golden brown and cream, dulling towards a greyish brown in the middle of the artefact. There is a line of iron staining across one side. This artefact dates to the Lower-Middle Palaeolithic. |
