Habersham, M. D.,Surgeon in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States: Chimborazo Hospital, Division No. 2, November, 1863.To Surgeon W. A. Carrington, Medical Director: Sir—I have the honor to inform you that, in accordance with your order of the twenty-ninth June, 1863,1 have received all the patients sent into this Division, with a peculiareruptive disease, supposed to be the consequence of vaccination, and herewith forwardyou the results of my investigation in this anomalous affection. D. 279 tion (not anticipating any evil consequences therefrom), the order was strictly obeyed,and ah the patients, even those having recent scars upon them, were re-vaccinated. Afew days after the insertion of the virus, and, in many cases, within twenty-four hours,the seat of punctnre became very much inflamed, with a deep inflammatory blush aroundit, which gradually implicated, iu the severe cases, nearly the whole of the affectedlimb. A pustule rapidly formed, instead of a vesicle, which very soon discharged an ich-orous fluid.
