Description
English: Apart from being the oldest - continuous in use - synagogue in the western hemisphere, the Mikvé Israël Synagogue (1730) is home to one of the oldest Curaçaon furniture.

This photograph shows the ‘Hekhal’ or Holy Ark containing the scrolls. It was made from mahogany in 1709 by cabinet-maker Pieter de Mey.

The ‘Hekal’ is older than the Snoa itself since it originates from an earlier synagogue on Curaçao.
