Description |
English: Hanchi Kalki - 1892 Lime Kiln
The lime kiln at the Ranchostraat is the only one remaining in Aruba. It was built in 1892 by Mr. Santiago Tromp. The kiln was used for the production of lime. Coral Stones and shells were pulverized and heated at nearly 1000 °C, then water was added to make quick lime. The quick lime was used to plaster and paint the local houses and buildings. The furnace at the Rancho Street was used until athe middle of the twentieth century. In 1970 the furnace was restored. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jaygalvin/47048035132
