Summary
[edit]DescriptionHanbury Street, Spitalfields.jpg |
English: I took this at 6:23 pm, soon after sunset on 13 October 2018. We met with friends visiting from the U.S. Afterwards we had drinks sitting at a pavement table outside a pub. No wind and the temperature of a summer evening.
______________ An aunt of mine lived for many decades in France. Like the rest of her generation of the family she grew up in this part of the East End - Spitalfields and Whitechapel. Telling us, the last time we saw her on a very rare visit to London, that she didn't recognise it. At the time I found that hard to understand. But perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised. Changes in this neighbourhood have been immense; and are accelerating. As shown in a documentary film about the work of photographer Don McCullin. (Some photos used were shot in Brushfield Street - now transformed.) |
