Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A Hampden machine cancel from Havana,1899. The Hampden machines were not very reliable nor effective. Their distribution was in large part attributable to political connections in the Post Office Department. The Havana cancel is rare. When Morris and Payne wrote their book on Hampden cancels in 1991, only one was known. Today only 13 are known, all from 30 September to 30 October, 1899. The stamp is a 5 centavos adhesive stamp printed in the US for use in occupied Cuba.
