Description The Robert Hampton Gray Memorial Vought Corsair. Flying off HMS Formidable, Robert Gray, Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve, would be awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his gallantry in attacking and sinking a Japanese destroyer off the Japanese coast on August 9, 1945 at the cost of his life. His was the last Canadian combat death in WWII.
