English: The Hamburg war memorial (officially the monument for the fallen of both world wars) by the city hall with Ernst Barlach’s relief “Grieving mother with child”; the city hall is visible in the background.
Deutsch: Das Denkmal für die Gefallenen beider Weltkriege, ist eine Stele mit dem Relief Trauernde Mutter mit Kind. Das Relief wurde 1931 von Ernst Barlach zur Erinnerung an die Gefallenen des Ersten Weltkriegs geschaffen. Architekt des 1930 bis 1932 geschaffenen Mahnmals war Klaus Hoffmann; Rekonstruktion 1945 nach Entfernung und Anbringung eines aufsteigenden Phönix 1938 durch den NS-Senat. Das Ehrenmal wurde am 22. Dezember 1950 gemeinsam mit der Kleinen Alster und der dorthin führenden Treppenanlage unter Denkmalschutz gestellt.
