Title
Halle aux Vins
Description
The original Halle aux vins dates back to as early as 1644, though it wasn't until 1808 that Napoléon ordered the construction of a larger, more distinguished Halle that would serve both as a market and an exportation center for wine and other liquor. Construction of the Halle aux vins was completed in 1818, and it was eventually expanded in 1868 so that it could hold a total of 20,000,000 liters of wine. The Halle was almost destroyed during World War II, and is located at the Place Jussieu in the fifth arrondissement.
