h a preface containing the reason of itspublication. There were two editions of thispamphlet. (2) An Apology for his Conductyearly on the 30th of January (anniversary ofthe execiition of Charles I.) Annexed is aSermon preached in Ripponden Chapel on ihe30tli January, 1755, from Romans xiii., 4, in-titled Kings should obey the Laws. Thispamphlet was printed at Manchester, 8vo. size.(3) A( Letter to the Clergy of the Church,known by the name of TJnitas Fratrum. orMoravians, concerning a remarkable Book ofHymns used in their Congregations, pointingout several Inconsistencies and Absurdities inthe said Bonk. This was an octavo pamphlet,printed at Manchester in 1756. We may haveoccasion to refer to these three productions,and although the first Moravian hymn-bookwas not a Yorkshire book it was mainly sedhere, and owing to the too literal translationof German hymns, and other uncouth expres-sions it was certainly open to criticism, anueventually was superseded. 22 HALIFAX BOOKS A^D AUTHORS.

Several other fugitive pieces by Mr. Watsonappeared in different periodic-als Avithout lisname. A,t the time of his death he had rn:>decollections for a book on the Antiqiiities of apart of the County of Chester; and also fora part of the County of Lancaster. For hispatron. Sir George Warren, he compiled theHistory of the Ancient Earls of Warren andSurrey, and their Descendants to the PresentTime.
