Description

Haliday Ms

Catalogus in Capsulum

In English Catalogus in Capsulum means Catalogue of the little box (Capsulum means in a condensed or compact form). This is the first page. The catalogue, which is in Haliday's best handwriting, lists the contents of Alexander Haliday’s early cabinet of his valuable specimens. That is to say his type specimens and very carefully mounted specimens of insects collected in Holywood, Co. Down. A few survivors sent to Hermann Loew ( and misleadingly labelled Dublin by Loew ) are conserved in the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin. It is to be distinguished from his general collection.
