Summary
[edit]DescriptionHaig Colliery - geograph.org.uk - 453174.jpg |
English: Haig Colliery This was an exhausting stint. We started in Birmingham on Thursday evening with a coach to Carlisle, train to Workington, a visit to BSC Workinton for the last steam rolling mill engine, then on the bus to here. In the evening we caught the bus back to Birmingham and got there by about 0200 and borrowed some keys to the student accommodation in the old General Hospital.
The colliery was still all steam powered. Not long after the water tube boilers and chimney were demolished and a new boiler house was erected roughly where I was stood to take the picture. The site is now a museum. |
