Description Native, warm-season, annual or perennial, erect or ascending herb 20–40 cm tall, with rather dense and spreading hairs. Leaves are variable; basal leaves are spathulate, becoming ovate or narrow-spathulate towards the flowerhead. Flowers are white or yellowish, rarely bluish. Lower parts of calyx are densely covered with hooked hairs. Corolla is 3–6 mm diam., with a tube exceeding the calyx tube by 1.5–2.5 mm. Stamens and style are included or anthers shortly exserted. Flowering is in spring and early summer. Grows in rocky places in grasslands and woodlands; widespread but usually uncommon. Above ground herbage or entire plants die off in summer unless the there is good moisture.
