| Description |
English: 2-4-0T locomotive No. 118 'Gordon Castle' of the Highland Railway, built as Dunrobin for 3rd Duke of Sutherland in 1870 by Kitson & Co. of Leeds. It worked on passenger trains between Dunrobin and Gartymore until the Duke's railway was connected to the main Highland infrastructure. After this it was kept at Brora and reserved for pulling the Duke's private carriage. The locomotive passed to the Highland Railway in 1895, where it was rebuilt in the following year and renamed 'Gordon Castle'. In 1900 it was renamed 'Invergordon' and was used for shunting duties at Invergordon harbour. Originally numbered 118 by the Highland it was renumbered to 118A in July 1913. It was withdrawn from service and sold in 1923.
Deutsch: Die 1Bt-Lokomotive Nr. 118 'Gordon Castle' der Highland Railway wurde 1870 von Kitson & Co. in Leeds als Dunrobin für den 3. Herzog von Sutherland gebaut. Sie führte Personenzügen zwischen Dunrobin und Gartymore kurz vor Helmsdale, bis die Eisenbahn des Herzogs 1871 mit der Sutherland Railway an Inverness angeschlossen wurde. Danach war die Lokomotive in Brora beheimatet und für das Bespannung des Hofzuges des Herzogs reserviert. Die Lokomotive ging 1895 an die Highland Railway, die sie im folgenden Jahr umgebaute und in 'Gordon Castle' umbenannte. 1900 erhielt sie den Namen 'Invergordon' und wurde im Rangierdienst im Hafen von Invergordon eingesetzt. Ursprünglich trug sie bei der Highland Railway die Nummer 118, wurde aber im Juli 1913 in 118A umnummeriert. 1923 wurde sie aus dem Dienst genommen und verkauft. |
